Numbers stamped on ribs

Hi all,

In general, what does it mean these numbers stamped on the ribs next the endpin? Industrial made? Model? other?

I think the likeliest explanation with an older instrument like yours is that is an inventory number applied by a violin shop that had this instrument in its inventory.  Numbers like these are seen stamped in various places on instruments or printed on small labels glued inside.  Sometimes it is possible to identify the shop that numbered the instrument from the location and style of the number, and, knowing the shop, it is then sometimes possible to access records telling how much the shop sold the instrument for and who they claimed made it.
