JacksonMaberry
It's a pleasant shape. I'm concerned about the material, however. Almost looks as if it could be lead?

Looks DG to me, early, I'd love to hear others thoughts
JacksonMaberry
Ah that's a relief! looks like an effhole, in any case.
Addie
These are late 19th to early 20th c, and are often made of zinc. Reminds me of Guadagnini, but not as extreme as this one:

Kevin Kelly
Looks like maybe a "normalized" version of "il Canone". This is the kind of thing I was talking about in the "German vs. American" violin thread. I don't know if this is a Ditson template, but it looks like it could be. finnfinnviolin
Interesting, I think this is a German template, now you mention it, I have a 2 that are identical... plus two identical strad templates... I got them at a sale from a deceased maker, I wonder if they were from a small production workshop.

Kevin Kelly
O.H. Ditson was a musical instrument supplier who also sold violin making tools and templates through the mail at one point. I brought them up in a different thread in regard to a particular violin. A lot of what I said is just my own speculation, having seen some connections here and there, but I suppose it's likely that the templates I saw years ago, which I was told were sold by Ditson, were simply imported from Europe along with violins and parts, etc.
