Bow ID?

Recommended Posts

Long time lurker, finally coming across some interesting items.

I came across a french bow from a violin shop that was very interesting to my eye and plays very well.  It is a tortoise shell, gold mounted, with a "Y? V?" stamp under the stick.

What do you guys think?  Is this a legit bow or not?

The square ferrel, brass screws in the slider, and no pins in the adjuster all point to a German bow to me.

It looks like a nice bow. Is that a scratch or a crack on the stick up near the head (picture 3)?

Just for discussion purposes, I do see a pin in the adjuster ,I think, in photo 2.

I dont think screws are unheard of on french underslides.

If it is chinese I'm impressed  by the taper and quality of the shell in the pearl slide.

The adjuster looks pinned to me ...

and screws aren’t unheard of in French bows with tortoiseshell frogs, particularly gold ones

the ferrule isn’t square and could belong on a French bow

but the brand doesn’t look good and I wouldn’t put money on Fetique.

The brand is completely wrong, ,wrong letter style, no underline under the victor abbrv.. also the `A` with the accent  on a fetique brand is smaller than the rest so that when the accent is above it comes to the same height as the rest of the letters.

Interesting bow none the less with nicely made frog.
