Wilgeo
Recently got my laser cutter in, and using a template, I laser cut my violin form. Not that it's assembled, any reason not to seal with some poly, or something?
Davide Sora
Shellac is enough if you like, will prevent some water absorption, don't contaminate gluing surfaces with varnish, seal them with glue.

So all the sides, put a coat of hide glue on them? Or wood glue?
nathan slobodkin
Varnish or shellac on all surfaces you don't want glue to stick to. Glue sizing on the surfaces you will glue the blocks to.

Wilgeo
Perfect thank you. The parts of the side of the form NOT getting blocks glued to it can be shellac'ed as well I would assume yes?

I put a drop of glue (titebond) in all the place where the glue must be for gluing the blocks, to seal the surface and prevent glue absorption at the first use of the form, expecially where endgrain is involved. I confess that I use Titebond for gluing blocks to the form .......... beware, little drops only.

Thanks again for your words of wisdom!
MikeC
hopefully I wont have a problem with glue sticking to the form. I did not seal it with shellac or anything. I only brushed melted bees wax on the edges.
Conor Russell
I rub a little dry soap on form close to the blocks. There's no need to varnish or seal the form. It doesn't matter if it moves a bit with the weather. Mine do have a light wipe of teak oil on them to make them look nice.
