Looks great Nick.  What's your planned arch height for the back?

Thanks!

My planned arch height is 16.5.

With a 4.5mm central thickness, that should match up internally to a 3mm top thickness at 15mm height thereabouts. I like to keep the central region of the top to 3mm or just under, and graduate out to 2.4-6 in the bouts depending on how the plate feels or the weight.

A new violin cradle a la Davide Sora's design. I made the middle slightly narrower to allow my gouges to clear.

Still in the rough stages. Gotta make the rotating base, too.

For some unknown reason, I want one. Been keeping my out for years but haven't found a really beautiful one yet.

I think yours will be beautiful!

Scroll and back looking good Nick. Is that the back that I saw at the diner? How long did the cradle take to fashion? What wood is the cradle?

Nice hanging for a beer the other day!

Thanks!

That is the same back. It's getting the inlay installed currently.

The cradle probably took a lil over an hour not counting gluing time. Unfortunately it's not one piece! I still have to add the cauls, turn buttons and swivel. It's made of 6/4 black walnut.

It was nice chatting over fries and a beer. We should do it again sometime!

Like the color. Red but not too over the top. Your own varnish or purchased?

I agree. I think I'm gonna keep it this color.

It's actually Holtier brown varnish with Magister Rose pigment mixed in.

Looking good nick. Did you apply with fingers/hand and leave it thick like Holtier suggests?

Thank you!

It was applied rather thick, but with a brush. Some patting here and there with fingers  afterwards to even things out a little.  It flows really well when used with lavender spike oil.

Also I'm a recent convert to the mystical properties of equisetum. I bought a whole bunch on Etsy. It's a little narrow for what I'd like, but it still works.
