fiddlecollector
Anyone guess what wood this is? I know but im surprised by how close in appearance it is to pernambuco. It was coated with clear shellac several years ago and you could say it has had the same sort of handling as a bow handle. it is around 7/8" in diamter/
MikeC
my guess mahagony
Jim Bress
I'll through in for rosewood (Dalbergia) genus. The color mix of yellow reds and black reminds me of cocobolo, but that's probably because it's the last tropical hardwood I worked with. Bill Yacey
I'd offer a guess of a variety of mahogany too.
fiddlecollector
Nope, all wrong so far, i dont know what the photos /colour is like on others screens but in person it looks like pernambuco on a well aged bow. Also to make it clear there is no stain ,just bare wood with clear shellac and daylight (inside).
