Here is this fiddle, golden ,,,,then the first one, dark guanerri,,,,,,, then this one again.

Toward the end of the recording is some choking on the brand new dominants installed that day,

it is also the dominant E string that is so horrible.

Golden , Dark, Golden.mp3

So now it's time for a new project,,, MG midget,,IMG_6671.JPG.b7086c402702de517a0ae35b48b9c98f.JPGIMG_6701.JPG.5a7e6b3bf9769856cfe2d8cff9a91cf2.JPG

Rat packed inner fendersIMG_6695.JPG.5556e2f14cbdcf157002ce71a2e922e9.JPG

This stuff packed in by mice will sure rust a car to pieces,,,it has to be taken down and cleaned up,

engine had filled with water and rusted,  I've already taken care of that, now it just needs cleaning up a bit.

pulled out the wiring and dash and gauges, everything needs serviced cleaned and sealed....

the wires are corroded,,, If all of this isn't fixed it will be an eternal source of problems and headaches,, you have to go to the source and fix and clean it all up from there, there is no other way,, no shortcuts.

Working on some varnish samples,,, need to start on my fiddle if I am to enter the Vmaai competition. There is a reason that I frequently am varnishing on the way to the event,,,,

I'm a bit nuts you see. and I just found out guys are showing up for a fiddle workshop next couple of weeks,,,so I have to clean up the shop....IMG_6725.thumb.JPG.2a1392e4ea6ceb9742b42fdc49f966a0.JPGIMG_6736.thumb.JPG.de3797540f37973c5cac31749db40ccd.JPGIMG_6762.thumb.JPG.8b827122f410571e83e8f898f3705ee9.JPG

I should add that they were recorded in a concert hall from 50 to 60 feet away, out in the seats.

player stood in the same place, recorder was on a tripod and  never touched or moved.

Years ago I made an MG Midget by buying (or hauling off for free) several from farmers around Georgia. I used the parts from them and stripped the entire thing down to the frame, sandblasted and worked my way back out. Had the engine bored, stroked and sleeved and learned how to "listen" through a tube inserted into the SU carb's to tune it. Fun project, fun to drive! I think the only new part I had to buy was the top.

My FIL had a Midget .  It was so much fun to drive. But then he sold it...and bought a van. :(

Funny thing...he had the little 2 seater car when his 6 kids were still at home. Then when they were all grown up he got the van.

Now...at almost 80...he's driving a half ton...

Hmm, are you serious? I had a daughter in law with us when I made my MGs. I had 7 kids at home, and then I sold them and got a van... seriously? I am only 67 now, so I still have time to get the 1/2 ton, but it will have to be electric :)

VMAAI Tone award certificate of merit!  Congratulations!  Hope it wasn't a different Evan Smith.  That would be embarrassing.  Smith being such an unusual last name I'm sure it was you. :D

I don't notice a huge amount of difference in any of the last ones.  They all sound great.  The thick grad one seems to have a pure sound, that is a little different from the rest.  My stiff birch one, (I have no idea what it sounds like played, or any of them for that matter. )  is like that, but the thick Ole Bull isn't.  Go figure.  Very nice sound on all of yours.  Didn't see these until today.
