Bridges and Soundposts of Exotic Woods?

Recommended Posts

I was organizing my stockpile of exotic lumber today, and fueled by thoughts from this topic,,it occurred to me: Have bridges and soundposts been made of different materials besides maple and spruce?
Has anyone ever experimented with a bridge made of Pernambuco? Or a soundpost made of that same wood? How about ebony?
Is there a measurable reason why maple and spruce are used for those parts, and if so, can it perhaps be improved/enhanced?
