I paid only a few dollars for this when I was looking to try out a "baroque violin." Eventually got a good period instrument and this one now decorates a shelf at mom's.

No corner blocks and at one time had painted purfling.  So I don't expect this to be anything marginally decent.  But I've always liked the looks of it. Just for the chance of an exception, I thought I'd ask

Can anyone shed some light on the where, when, and why of this violin?

Thank you !

Looks like a classic Salzkammergut fiddle, probably 19th century. I wouldn't call it "factory" made. Pretty neat actually, why don't you get it set up and play it.

Thank you for the information! I had forgotten about it until today.  I played years ago but without proper setup. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Thank you

Would you have any idea of these violins value? It isn’t one I play so I am looking to pass it on to someone who may be interested in playing it.
