The only thing I can think of is that the chinrest was loose in the case, and someone (perhaps a mandolin player) thought it looked like a pick guard.

Or maybe a 1-armed fiddler bowing with his teeth.

There is also something bogus going on with the neck/button, but the resolution is too poor to see exactly what.

Didn't notice that the first time.  The "D" string (or whatever that SLO -string-like object- is) might have been too short to reach all the way to the D peg.  Or (more likely) just clueless.
