I'll always have a warm spot for Leila Josefowicz.  I mean that literally -- get divorced and come on over.

Last she played with us a couple years ago Leila was divorced, presumably available for a suitable...uh...suitor!  Good luck with that.  Pro'ly helps greatly if you're young, handsome, and rich.

Sal Accardo is a blast from the past.  I think his reputation as a performer suffered because of his teaching duties (unlike Starker, for instance).  Played with us a long time ago, I remember him as having a stunning technique, as do they all these days (at least post Heifetz...)

^I have more successes being old, ugly, and poor than I did when I was rich, young, and handsome for some reason.  Probably the appeal of appearing dangerously crazy.

I'd hate to be competing for jobs these days though.  Dang, man.

I realize you'll add more winners, but I see that so far, in classic MN fashion (and like some of the participants) it's still "a few bricks shy of a load". :)

If there's a runoff election for the bottom 4 spots, I'm for Perlman, Shaham, Rachel Pine, and Bell at this point.

No. 10 spot should be automatically given to "The Unknown Soloist", to honor those who worked very hard and achieved a measure of greatness but didn't have, you know, whatever, and nobody ever heard of them.  It will also honor those who were heard but whose name the hearer forgot.  And also those with unpronounceable names.

This list only serves to prove that "charisma" is a necessary ingredient to success.

Nothing else.

If "nothing else" is about the "ingredient" part, I would beg to differ.

Violinsts are performers, so they need to have some charisma. Still, all of these names on the list are violinists and musicians in the first place, entertainers second.

There is no violinistic equivalent of Lang Lang on the list.
