Good looking Austrian violin on ebay - Joseph Hamberger

Dear fellow forum readers,

 

Those who heard of the maker Joseph Hamberger, could you let you know your thought about this violin which is sold already but in any case looks interesting.

 

To my (relatively) untrained eyes it is an original piece, I like the varnish on the front.

I am not 100% convinced if a label from the first half of  the 1800s would look like this, but maybe you have some view on that, too.

For a price in the low 300 EURs, it was a steal. Or?

Since a real Hamberger violin would reatail at about 30 times as much, I think one would have to be delusional to suppose that Mr. Pappei would sell one for €300. As a good recreational “Bohemian Box” (reality) the price seems about ok.

Just by browsing the seller's history I saw this price tag originally:

That would then be either be a rip-of at large scale or maybe that would have to do anything with a real Hamberger?

For the referred price, a Mathias Thir is currently available at Mr Pappai's shop. One should not miss the chance.
