 no matter how many babies an ambulance driver delivers he can not become an obstetrician unless he graduates from medical school.

Possibly not the most apposite analogy ... my first wife was (is) a midwife of many years experience, and based on her after work stories, I can assure you that if I were ever in the position (unlikely, I grant you) of having to make a choice between  my child being delivered by an ambulance driver who had delivered 1000 babies during his career, or by a fresh faced med school graduate whose practical gynaecological experience paled into insignificance in comparison, I would choose the ambulance driver every time.

Would you trust the ambulance driver to perform a C-section on you?

Hey all;

There is an opinion voiced by some members that this thread should be deleted, and others not so. I did take a weekend to work on a project, so I haven't read this thread since Friday. For those few who may have wondered, I am very confident in my own manhood, and a larger pair might not fit as comfortably in my jeans.   :)

Last Friday, I was asked by a trusted member of MN if I thought some opinions in the thread were too harsh on the program or the rhetoric used to describe it.  My response was "Yes, I feel some of the opinions are a bit harsh".  It appears to me that the maker involved has a real advocate (we all like advocates from time to time, don't we?), and this support when combined with ad copy went a bit over the top (lacked accuracy) and that material from others was used on the site. I'd imagine the business of running an inn is a competitive one, and that an innkeeper is always looking for an edge to support the business. Unfortunately, when this desired edge mixes the description of a trade that many here have devoted several decades to (in school, in training, working long hours, always striving to do "better", teaching, etc.), there is a bit of a clash of ideals. It's difficult for those of us who have devoted a ton of time learning from and educating others in the trade to see our programs used for ad copy.

On the other hand, the innkeeper has shown that he was understanding of copyright protected media and seems that he is sensitive to the mention of tools (casts) tied to programs supported by other organizations (intellectual property). He has shown he is open to suggestions and leaning the accepted nomenclature. He also reels a bit when he perceives that criticism is too harsh (natural, I think). I know a very fine writer who writes for a number of large firms, as well the olympic committee. The research time required to bring an accurate... but effective... voice to paper without seeming overly commercial is daunting. The innkeeper is kind of getting a crash course here on this site.

I'm willing to give the innkeeper the benefit of the doubt and some time to digest the information offered on this thread, and then apply it to his copy.  Personally, I'd much rather he be engaged instead of repelled, as healthy discussion is probably the only way he'll understand the concerns being voiced. Fair enough? I don't see a reason, at this point, to take down the thread, but I will suggest that each member review their own posts and... if you feel it does not accurately reflect your true feelings... self edit.

Let's lighten up a little and see how this all progresses.

Cheers,

I think that Jeffery's respond was well formed and I have no problem apologizing to him if my post was insulting.

If you think about it. The issue I took was with the thread in general and addressed it directly to the power to change it. I pushed to get the attention which I did. This has nothing to do with you David. I don't know why you even bother commenting my posts. It is unlikely that you will understand me as you constantly search for something you won't find in me as a person.

I don't believe in attacking others businesses on the Internet. This happens all the time and is morally cleared/allowed under "social media" and that businesses has to live with it. Well they do, so we have to be responsible.

Again, this forum is ranking very high on search engines and comments here affects violin businesses around the world for good or destruction.

I guess it has something to do with detecting and homing in on incongruencies, when I've had too much coffee in the morning. ;)

Didn't you write this earlier?

This is not a Pegbox thread and should not be staying around on the Internet.

I also think David and Jerry should apologize and move on.
