Dani Tsui
This is an old violin that I have, in my opinion, from Markneukirchen. It has 4 pins at the plate, and another 4 at the back, at the corner blocks. I've read at anotherbthread that this was commom when sending instruments to the tropics. Would that be the case, or, do they have any function? Thanks, Dani

Conor Russell
Yes. That's typical of an instrument that's been pinned for the tropics.I don't know that it was actually very useful, nor whether it was ever faked up.

captainhook
If there are no blocks, the pins serve no function except decoration or fakery. I actually did that once, long ago, when I was working with detached rib garlands. I didn't like the look and changed my ways.
