Violadamore Posted January 30, 2016 Report Posted January 30, 2016 My eyes are still telling me Dalbergia nigra, but I'm going to guess cocobolo because you said it's rare, and cocobolo's in CITES Appendix II, as well as on the IUCN Red List. If it's not listed as endangered, it's probably kingwood.
MeyerFittings Posted January 30, 2016 Author Report Posted January 30, 2016 Yes If it is that rare I would have to say kingwood too. I have a piece that Miles Gilmer gave me to turn.
MeyerFittings Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 OK, no reaction. Joe, ERHU showing us something really rare?
joerobson Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 I yam.....red sandalwood... Pterocarpus santalinas... The wood of the Erhu. In Chinese woodworking it is referred to as hung-mu which I think translates as "the old wood". Good on ya, Joe
MeyerFittings Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 We have to stop meeting like this.
joerobson Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 Naahh....we're the old guys... We'll stop soon enough. On we go, Joe
MeyerFittings Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 I may slow down, but since I've been self employed forever and don't get to retire from anything, I guess I'll stop at the entrance to the bone yard.
joerobson Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 You can turn bone if you are careful.
