Viewing the (particularly) belly, where the soft wood (between the grain lines) seems to have dark varnish that has soaked into the wood, I think you should check if the whole thing wasn’t originaly a dark colour and got stripped. Your pictures aren’t really enough to form a final opinion, although rib corners, purfling, 7 o’clock scroll etc. speak for somewhere between Schönbach & Markneukirchen.

Thank you Jacob , The varnish on the back has a very fine crackle that , the top has only a few spot ....none under the tail piece indicating to me that it has been at least scrubbed down at some point , the top also has a more matt/ less gloss character than the back . post-30189-0-53939000-1450033687_thumb.jpgpost-30189-0-28715000-1450033823_thumb.jpgpost-30189-0-30849000-1450033998_thumb.jpgpost-30189-0-45057500-1450033459_thumb.jpgThe corners are very narrow something less than 5mm. Peg hole need bushings at the least and there are a few cracks ..saddle , treble f wing . ...this is not my "instrument" just doing a friend a favor . The "bizarre" heal is a overlay repair...
