jacobsaunders Posted December 13, 2015 Report Share Posted December 13, 2015 Viewing the (particularly) belly, where the soft wood (between the grain lines) seems to have dark varnish that has soaked into the wood, I think you should check if the whole thing wasn’t originaly a dark colour and got stripped. Your pictures aren’t really enough to form a final opinion, although rib corners, purfling, 7 o’clock scroll etc. speak for somewhere between Schönbach & Markneukirchen. Jones Posted December 13, 2015 Author Report Share Posted December 13, 2015 Thank you Jacob , The varnish on the back has a very fine crackle that , the top has only a few spot ....none under the tail piece indicating to me that it has been at least scrubbed down at some point , the top also has a more matt/ less gloss character than the back . The corners are very narrow something less than 5mm. Peg hole need bushings at the least and there are a few cracks ..saddle , treble f wing . ...this is not my "instrument" just doing a friend a favor . The "bizarre" heal is a overlay repair...
