F hole saw

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a place to purchase a quality f hole saw? I purchased one years ago from China (because this was the only one I could find) but the quality is horrendous.

I'd love to upgrade, but I'll be damned if I can find a supplier. Tried international, howard core, leumel. Can't find one anywhere.

Xacto. I ground down the back edge of their 1/4" saw blade to allow for cutting a tighter radius. I much prefer this to a coping saw.

I rough cut the hole openings with the saw and finish them off with a knife and needle files.

I love my Knew Concepts saw. The blade rotates 45 or 90 degrees and it is insanely light weight.

Coincidentally i came across an interview with the co-creator of Knew Concepts just a few days ago.  They talk about the aluminum and the titanium versions.  Very cool.. Its definitely on my wish list.

I first bought a 12" Eclipse fret saw from Amazon and it was horrible.  The clamps on the saw would not grip a blade well (they were actually painted black) and the thumbscrew stripped out on my second use.  I finally got a used Sanvik on ebay that's actually decent.  I was a jeweler and am used to fine quality German jewelers saws which can't be beat in my opinion.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a German saw with a 12" throat.

I can't see the point of using a saw for F holes unless one is making a bass. It only takes a few seconds to remove all the waste wood with an appropriate knife.

I fully agree.
