Hello, everyone!

It was suggested to me to try this forum for an inquiry about my new cello. I just bought a lovely instrument of unknown origin. My best guess is late 19th/early 20th century German manufacture, but I'm just a player. The label on the inside is largely removed apart from this tiny piece, and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what it could be?

Many thanks for your time!

The label might be Anton Veinar (though not authentic), and a Hungarian Anton comes to mind - is it Vecszey?

But labels come and go - this one probably went because it was in some way incriminating or otherwise depressing!

How about some photos of the instrument?

It looks like it was stuck in pretty crooked, like many of the dealer labels that were dropped in through the f hole with a pair of tweezers were, so it probably doesn’t mean much. How about Aston Villa? oh

Oh, thank you so much! Yes, the label is pretty crooked inside. I bought the cello from someone who got it as a child from his father and doesn't recall anything about the origin. It's brobably nothing special, but it was definitely an affordable improvement over what I had. The cello is very healthy for its age, and is very resonant even though it's been silent for over 20 years. Here are some photos:

Hi again! I think my messages aren't going through immediately because I'm a new member. Does anyone have any thoughts about the background of the cello? I can do better photos if needed. Thanks again!
