Dwight are you saying that you will purchase another copy of the book and give that to whoever volunteers to build the plates? Given that you already have donated a lot of your cash. I will also contribute some money to the purchase of the book for this purpose. No need for you to spend all your hard earned money. That is a real motivator for sure. I only hope that the person who steps up will be qualified to do the job. I can think of a few who would be an asset to the project...Heck throw in a new set of golf clubs and you mioght just get a master...haha

That's what I meant.  I would just blow it on food and electricity anyway :-)  I think if you are making the plates the book would be about as explicit as you could get.

I am lucky enough to live in a house that's payed for and my kids have kids of their own.  I am taking care of a very pregnant cat who adopted me and is living in my backyard.  Anybody want a kitten???  :-)

Will the label contain an index of who did what?  (Understanding that doing so might stir up some future business for some, and less for others) :D

I think I can contribute by designing the label. :D

The violin was not bad and in the end it sounded quite good.   It had poor areas of workmanship, but it didn't matter.  The violin had charm that derived from the fact that a bunch of makers of different backgrounds and abilities came together to make something collaboratively.   Such collaboration are always novelties and can be fun, produce a decent instrument, but the work will be uneven.  I did a collaborative viola in Scotland with a group of professional makers and even there the workmanship told the story, e.g.,  the purfling of the top differed from that of the back because differnet hands were involved.  Nature of the beast.

2 boxes on the porch out of the weather, two dog igloos,.......5 kittens under the tarp in the wood pile - go figure.

I'll do plates and purfling if you'll have me. I'd appreciate the shipping getting picked up, but I received scholarships to get me through violin making school, and this sort of thing is paying it forward. I can knock a finished box out once I get materials and plans in a week or so. Let me know!

What book are you all referring to ?

I hope this project happens.  It would be fun to watch the progress if everyone posts pictures here.     I would almost be tempted to volunteer something myself.;)

Oh! I may have misunderstood! If the plates will be made by two different people, I'll take the top, but if no one says boo for the back, I'm on board for both, I suppose!

Nope We don't have anyone to do either plate.  You get the top, the back and the book!  Shipping is absolutely no problem.  I have not shipped the rib stuff out, but I can send wood to you ahead of time and have the ribs sent to you when assembled.  I will get a book sent to you on Monday if you will P.M a shipping address hear on Maestronet.

Dwight,

2 things. 1) I want to say I appreciate your attitude and generosity. This project might actually happen because you are offering your time and money in a generous way. I look forward to meeting you sometime at a convention in person. I think we would get along. I have a lot of violist friends and they are all wonderful people. 2) Do you know of a place that sells the Amati book in the states or is it just from Cremonabooks? I'm thinking I would like to order the book and do a little studying. Maybe even make a viola from the pattern. I enjoy making violas. This group build has gotten me interested in the Amati instrument.

We have someone to do the plates!!  Chris Jacoby is doing the top and the back!  I am feeling kind of ill today so I have not been very comminitive.  I gotta get a new brain and a new stomach :-(  The book is available from the authors and Cremona Tools.  I think it is a little cheaper from Cremona Tools.  I really have not made a big study of it but I have gotten them from both places and they came to me here in Texas in a week or so.  I just sent for my third copy, but the second one kind of came by mistake so I sent it to my teacher as a present.  I will try to be around and I will be sending stuff out in the mail this week.

OK guys!

The wood for the plates, the neck block, and the ribs and mold went out by USPS priority mail and the folks have been sent the tracking numbers by PM.  I hope I did not screw up too badly and got everything in the right box.  I really tried to do it right, but my mind does not always respond to normal stimuli.

In time for Independence Day celebration?

I made a 2 meter diameter scale model of stonehenge for my school kids this year.  I was going to set it up and celebrate the solstice!  Druid cook out at my house everyone invited!!   (I know it wasn't the druids, but they are such fun)

I hope the wood is to everyones liking, I thought it was pretty nice.

Mike Jones is making the neck and I guess Matt Noykos is setting the neck.  Who do I send the fingerboard to?  You can PM me your address.
