Violin ID

That looks commercial Mirecourt to me, (varnish, corners, button, back of scroll etc) but I'm hardly the word on id'ing.jeff

The instrument has been over-varnished.

It does not look to me like what I would describe as standard Mirecourt - the edge work and corners especially. Nor do the f-holes. It's some kind of mass-produced French work, but what, and when?

I see a bad soundpost crack and and lower treble bout cracks.  As well, bad overvarninshing/revarnish.

Thanks Martin!

What would be a reasonable market price for something like that? Bearing in mind that this one is over-varnished.

Is the original varnish OK under the new varnish? The colour doesn't look bad ....

If the condition is good, and setting aside the varnish issue since only you can judge that, I see this level of Laberte violin selling for between £1500 and £2500. Laberte did offer a "Vuillaume" model with nice timber and a "vernis a l'ancien" which you might see for a bit more, but this one looks pretty standard - nice pegs by the way, I suppose they're original.
