Rue Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 I guess he really wants it out of his house...lol. You'd think ANY money would be better than no money (if he kills it)...but each to his own... I wonder what the signature is about?
not telling Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 Looks worth more than $200. Usually when a seller claims naivete they are full of it. In this case, I am optimistic that the seller can be taken at face value. The signature is pretty stupid though. Boo.

In this case, I am optimistic that the seller can be taken at face value. The signature is pretty stupid though. Boo. Wood quality looks good, but the drawn on purfling is very poorly done. Wondering if it was maybe done at a later stage? And yea, the signature might just be a "graffiti"-like thing. Dont think any maker or restorer would do that.
not telling Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 I'm on my phone and can't see the purfling. I just thought the outline looked good. Excuses. But I really can't see that much detail.
Rue Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 Seems like a nice back to put on a cheap violin? Could the signature be some 'famous' violinist (of the time) that maybe signed it for a student?
Kallie Posted April 18, 2015 Author Report Posted April 18, 2015 Well, lack of purfling doesnt always indicate poor quality. But I dont have enough experience to identify the quality of violins such as this.
not telling Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 Can't see what it says, but that seems probable. The repair is disgusting now that I'm looking, geez. But if it sounds good...y'know? $200 isn't much. That's probably exactly and more what it's worth, but that first photo seemed alright to me as far as the overall look.
Rue Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 I say he's bluffing. I say you should call his bluff...
not telling Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 Ships from Topeka Kansas. He is probably not bluffing as far as not knowing anything. If he can write that poorly on purpose he should win a prize. The photos are taken in some pothead's apartment. It adds up to me. But by all means, send nails.
Violadamore Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 He's a guitar person, and therefore capable of anything depraved. Consider Faulk........... Very pretty fiddle, except for the graffiti and the hellacious crack.....repair?
puckfandan Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 I see none of you purchased it, and he fell through on his word to make it permanent wall art!
Kallie Posted April 19, 2015 Author Report Posted April 19, 2015 Yep. Relisted.... Maybe he still hopes to get the minimum for it.
pahdah_hound Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 I found this recent question and answer at the bottom of the listing. Is he threatening the buyer or himself? Q: The violin will you be able to sell the violin and the shipping for 200A: NO For gods sake the shipping is extra Please don anyone else ask me this or I,ll just take it offline and smash it to Bits Lowballers everywhere.... Something like the bank robber screaming "Don't move or I'll shoot myself!"
Rue Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 LOL...almost makes you WANT to ask him again... However (to be fair)...I have an acquaintance who was giving away some old lawn furniture (serviceable, but bulky to transport). The people who said they'd take the furniture also wanted it professionally cleaned, delivered and set-up...

Something like the bank robber screaming "Don't move or I'll shoot myself!" Is weed legal where he is from? Might explain his behavior... Either that or he is very bad at blackmail. Im wondering if he really thinks someone is going to say "Oh please no" and buy the violin....
Kallie Posted April 20, 2015 Author Report Posted April 20, 2015 LOL...almost makes you WANT to ask him again... I like the way you think.
uncle duke Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 Is weed legal where he is from? Might explain his behavior... Either that or he is very bad at blackmail. Im wondering if he really thinks someone is going to say "Oh please no" and buy the violin.... Not yet, it took awhile for gambling to be legalized again- weed will take longer to be accepted. His Craiglist add has a phone number and he's about 50 miles from me but I have enough violins.
Rue Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 We could sic PETA on him... People for the Ethical Treatment of Acoustic-instruments. ..
Violadamore Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 We could sic PETA on him... People for the Ethical Treatment of Acoustic-instruments. .. Perhaps we should form "Peeved Ebayers for Tasteful Auctions"
Kallie Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 A Moment of Silence for the violin that was murdered with a 12 inch nail. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Violin-think-german-dated-1914-on-back-of-instument-/301608931259?&autorefresh=true It was relisted twice, and now taken down.. Guess it's on to the wall with the violin.
SteveA Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 "If the instrument doesn't make a decent price I will hang it on the wall in my studio with a 12 inch nail right through the middle." I would think that nine inch nails would be more appropriate ....
