Merry Christmas

Recommended Posts

Peter K-G,

a Merry Christmas to you also.

I would go into my entire recent diatribe regarding my feelings for "holidays" in general, but that is another story for another time.

My feelings for this season, though no longer innate for me, ARE central for my actions regarding the children and relatives around me.

And, here at Maestronet also.

The children around me, well, their upbringing is important to me, and I remember the effect Christmas had on me as a child, and the reasons why everything goes the way it does today.

I am not a parent - (the "Polycystic Kidney" is genetic, and my children would have had a 1 in 3 chance of inheriting it - therefore - no kids) but I am, indeed due to the luck of my life, a true grandparent to my eight grandchildren.

Like me, they are being brought up either Catholic and/or Christian.

So we, as a family, celebrate both Christmas and the holidays generally.

Thanksgiving - and etc., also.

My final thought on the matter is that the season is indeed here, and the feelings are (in regard to whoever you are, and whatever it is that you 'celebrate') genuine. The reasoning behind the whole thing does require much consideration that, as an adult, many of us are required to inspect and consider the value of, and the reality of, now, in present time.

Which I do.

I should say; which I NOW do, as, in the past, the almost hypnotic atmosphere that accompanies these holidays, was considerate and unavoidable. And an unemotional inspection of their reality and value, was simply not there. Nor was an interest in such things.

What happened? Did I suddenly awaken?

Anyway,

A Merry Christmas to you, and to everyone else here that is either a Christian, or that celebrates this time of year - for whatever their reasons are!

Love, peace, and joy, are worth the effort, alone.

What more could one ask for?

( a tad more money perhaps? -  ok, just kidding... I'll go now)

So, once again, a Merry Christmas to you.

I have to confess that I've been feeling stressed and even slightly depressed with the hustle, bustle and commercialism of the holiday season. However, at one point I remember back to all the Christmas Holidays spent at my grandparents in a small country town, and I feel much better. My grandmother spared nothing with her wonderful cooking for the Christmas Eve and Christmas day feasts. There was a peaceful and tranquil paradox in the house, despite the numerous loud, simultaneous conversations taking place between the various family members. At midnight we would all go to the church for mass, and upon returning, eat and drink some more while exchanging gifts.

We were all together to celebrate Christmas, with our day to day problems forgotten at least for awhile.

I hope for everyone to experience peace, love and tranquility during this special time. Merry Christmas!

This year I decided to make my gifts to avoid the hustle and bustle.  It was hard to come up with a few ideas but once I figured out what I wanted to make, it has been so much less stressful that I'm going to do it again next year.

Bill, I love what you wrote.  Reminded me of Christmas at my grandparents in Saskatchewan on the farm....thanks for bringing up the good memories.  I think the part about eating and drinking into the wee hours of the night is what hit it on the head.

Merry Christmas!

James

James,

We still try and maintain the old Ukrainian traditions. I'm soaking wheat right now to make kutya; my wife is just getting ready to make cabbage rolls from the sour leaves I mentioned in another thread a week or so ago. I'm also making sauerkraut and green pea soup, and we'll be eating potato and onion pyrohy along with baked Atlantic salmon along with pickled herring, mashed beans with garlic and a plethora of other tasty side dishes. A veritable feast for the veganly - inclined; no meat or dairy products.

Christmas day will be the turkey feast!

Santa Claus failed to deliver my Soil Strad, this is the best he could do

Merry Christmas everyone

Thanks.

Merry Christmas to all too.

Looks like you may have made the Naugthy list this year, or Santa does not do necks.

OK, its Christmas morning, and I just awoke and here I am, on the computer.

What a life, huh?

Yesterday was a large pot of posole' and then tamales made by Mary, (my wife) a large pot of pinto beans, fresh tortillas, homemade bread, and last but not least an assortment of drinks of both the alcohol sort and not.

Ok, so I was at the whisky early on...

Today she's making a ham for the center of our holiday feast.

I have already wrote about my holiday mentality here elsewhere... but the fact is that on the holidays (today, Christmas day - and all the rest) I find myself, on this day, also wishing everyone a happy one.

Even more, I will go as far as to wish everyone here that reads this a happy year and a happy life.

Oh yes - and by the way, I also made the "naughty list" this year...

(she threatened to spank me later on today, but only if I spank her first. I ask you, damn - what's a boy to do?)

Oh and I forgot to mention the red chile (pronounced chee-lay) she made, to put on and in everything. (that she makes from dried red chili pods and God only knows what else)

I admit to being a virtual food obsessive idiot these days.

My thought exactly!  And I hope it does, and more.

Happy Christmas everyone.

I hope it does also.

I know for a fact that some of those things exist, as I have been there (the 'other side'...) several times.

So, you caught that brief exchange, huh?

Interesting, no?

The ham just went in the oven. I cannot wait till it's ham time!

It turned out that Santa do make necks and I promised to be nice next year (especially on Maestronet) So I got a late delivery
