Hello,

My first ever post here.

I am visiting New York City next month and want to know if you guys have any suggestions for any violin related places to visit - shops. museums, etc, etc.   NYC has Piano Row.  Is there a equivalent for string instruments in NY, something like Rue Rome in Paris?   I am not planning to do violin shopping but I might be getting some accesories.  Any recommendations?  Thanks!  Violinism.

Met museum - great instruments on display

Tarisio auction house on west 54th - if there's an auction going on you can try the instruments and it is located in the building that has tons of other luthiers and violin shops.

Dec 17 there's a performance on the upper east side with casals' recently renovated cello.

Thanks so much Joe & BassClef!   Looks like I am going to be very busy!   How much money should I bring?  (j/k)  No No No...I am not buying anything.

I noticed the building 244 - West 54th St.   Is there a best day/time of the week to visit the shops there?

I think Tarisio is closed on the weekends and their current auction ends around Dec 9-10 so if you visit after that it will be extra quiet with not many things to look at. Maybe going to these shops an hour after they open or an hour before they close might be quiet times. Friday afternoons are quiet from my experience. What are the dates you're in town and where are you staying?

I will be in town from 9-14th and staying in East Village.  so will miss that concert.

I would go strait away, first thing to Tarisio. the auction ends around then so you'll want to get in there before it does so you can examine and try all of the instruments that you're interested in. The showroom is walk-in and the staff is very friendly.
