Hello,

I measured my mold. it's 16mm thick plywood. (But I have used quite high ribs 31-33 mm on this model).
It's always a bit nervewrecking to remove the mold with both linings glued

Anyway, 13 mm should be more than fine.

I have no idea what wood it is, could be beech? It was harder than the maple back that I'm working on.

Yes good, I have to be on the safe side because the ribs will only be 29-30 mm.

 

(Because of bigger violin to get A0 ~275 Hz and f-holes about the same size as The Soil)

If the form does not lose stiffness, 12mm myght be ok.

My forms range from 13,5 to 14mm and are working fine with 29,5-31.5 ribs height and 7,5mm linings height.

I sometimes use a form of 14.5mm but with lower linings, for Guarneri IHS model, and I think every time to lower it.

 

Anyway, according to Pollens book, the G  form is 14.5mm thick, the PG 14mm, the P 1705 13mm (the thinnest) and the P/B 15mm (the thickest and the only one at this thickness).

 

From Stradivari in total we have only one at 15mm, two at 14.5mm, five at 14.0mm and four at 13.0mm thickness.

Somewhere in the museo del violino (not on display) there are two forms attribuited to Bergonzi that are 11,8 to 12,3mm thick, that I saw for the first time at the exhibition on Carlo Bergonzi in 2010 here in Cremona.

Will printing the mold on the US legal paper come out to the same size in real life, or will I have to resize it?

If you're just using the form with the old blocking and binding, then a bit of thickness to the form helps contribute some vertical stability.  Though I think it's almost characteristic that the old makers were less concerned with precise vertical squareness of the sides compared to later generations.

 

For these reasons, I wouldn't aim to make the form as thin as possible.

It should but may depend on your printer. According to Fiddlecollector, measurements should be:

length with end blocks = 350.2 mm

width upper bout = 161.1

width middle bout = 103.15

width lower bout = 200.4

 

Without end block templates a little judgement is required. If Addie's pattern does not perfectly match these numbers I would not be concerned.

If it prints much different for you, resizing should fix it.
