pv1838
Hello, Can anyone tell me how many violins Pressenda created in the year 1838? I understand Rocca left that year, and production levels dropped. Did Rocca actually craft violins for him that year, and how many are thought to have been produced? Thanks to all, I appreciate the site and the helpful input I have seen here... Novice

Berl Mendenhall
Unless someone has his workshop log book (if there even is such a thing) there is no way of knowing.

Using Dan's research methods, far fewer than Tony Strad made in any one year between 1700 and 1737, particularly during his Saxon period If there is a list of verified Pressendas by date, I haven't found it yet. David Hart
In the year 1838, Pressenda made approximately 0.0001% of all violins ever made. Of course I could be wrong!
Will L
I'm always interested in the variety of questions, particularly from new members. If you don't mind, pv, why ask this one? There is probably a general belief that about the most a single maker can make year in/year out is 12 violins and a couple of celli without killing himself. Wikipedia says he had assistants including Calot and Pacherel, and Rocca. Pressenda would have been in his prime and might have had a demand, so one might guess 12. I'd be surprised if anyone could be specific. I personally don't have a clue as to how Rocca fit into Pressenda's output; I hope someone can tell us. I assume you already read Wikipedia's article. Sadly, it states he died alone and broke.
Violadamore
OK. Cozio http://tarisio.com/cozio-archive/browse-the-archive/makers/maker/?Maker_ID=573 (the best i could find) only shows one for 1838. His big years seem to have been 1827-30, but compared to some makers, he must not have been terribly productive.
Jeffrey Holmes
With the research ongoing by Christophe Landon, Eric Blot and others, in the end it will probably be more interesting or enlightening to see how Pressenda's association with Pacherel (and possibly a few other makers) effected Pressenda's output during that period. pv1838
Thanks Will. I came across one recently with a label indicating Pressenda 1838, and I was interested to learn how common - or uncommon - that might be. As I looked into it, there seem to be more from other years out there than 1838, hence the question.
