I don't know, but for some reason I love old violins with no purfling, I'd be on this one if it were in better shape.

I love the looks of this violin. Wouldnt mind buying it in that shape, but most certainly not for anything close to that asking price.

I think there has been plenty of debates on this board about purfling and cracks, and I've heard the argument that purfling can increase cracks because of the thinning in the channel. There are certainly many purfled instruments with this many cracks, and I think in this case it just looks worse because the cracks are very visible.

Purfling is just decoration, and if anything just makes it easier for edges to break off. The fiddle seems to have everything for an early 19th C. Markneukirchen region instrument
