welshman
A client just told me about a flute player's bamboo instruments destroyed by u.s. customs when flying into Boston. If you do a web search for "Bamboo flutes destroyed at airport" you will find the many articles about this incident. The man is a world renown player of flutes and had 11 handmade bamboo flutes destroyed by a custom inspector misinterpreting the regulations on agricultural products. reese

vathek
The customs inspector who destroyed these instruments which were clearly not capable of propagating new bamboo should be made to pay for them out of his own pocket.

robertdo
I agree with Martin Strangely the article reminds that the law divides bamboos in 2 categories, the dried one that cannot grow again, and the other kind. So I wonder if really a flute made of bamboo could regrow when planted. On the other hand I am quite certain that if you plant a violin you won't get a pine tree and a maple tree...
