Starting my next two, will be working on a strad and del gesu model. Hoping to get that done, otherwise they will end up as personal models! Trying to figure out the nuances of each model so that they can be recognizable : ) one will be Viotti, the other Kriesler!? Any tips and advice would be great!

Interesting choices... my fiddle that tied with you at VMAAI was a Kreisler(ish) model; the top arching was lower because the wood I wanted to use was too thin.  I used my own graduation ideas, but tending toward Guarneri

.

My other fiddle in the competition was based on the Viotti outline, but with ex-Jackson(ish) archings and graduations

I would advise you to use .55 density Sitka for the top and leave it 5mm thick, so I can win next year.

Well this is my number one redux, complete regraduation and new bass bar, varnish. Very happy with the tone, volume and ease of playing. Looked like I had a perfectly good straight varnish, but I got callled to the dark side and had to work on antiquing. Nice distraction as I work on two other builds ; )

Regraduating a Wallace award winning tone instrument?  Why?  That seems like something only I would do.

NOOOOOOOOOOO,  This is my first one I have redone.  The second one was the one at the competition and my daughter has taken if for her violin.  I am very happy with the second one and leaving as is :)

The extended age mark to the right of the f hole.  Does that spell "wood"???

Thanks Don!

Got most of the color developed in the wood, used oil varnish, two clear coats, two color coats and finished with a clear coat. Will be string up tomorrow!
