Wanted to give my thanks to Christopher Reuning for writing an excellent article about Stradivari's stylistic changes, and yet another thank you for Tucker Densley, whose photos illustrate Mr. Reunings points superbly. The article will be a permanent addition to my copy of the exhibition Catalog.

Thanks, nice article....I specially like the following paragraph:

 

One such revelation is Stradivari’s constant variation of detail from instrument to instrument—no two are alike. The pair of 1709 violins illustrated this point precisely, showing Stradivari’s variation in grounds and varnish. “La Pucelle” has varnish that has penetrated into the wood, whereas the “Viotti-Bruce” Strad has a ground that isolated the varnish from the wood. The difference is striking and demonstrates that Stradivari was not content to remain static, but always strived to push the boundaries of his craft.

 

And love this beautiful color.
