There's another series of rehair videos on Youtube where the guy yanks out the head wedge with a twist of a pliers.

I have seen so many instruments destroyed or seriously damaged, and so, devalued, by butchers.  I imagine that I (or my insurance) would have to pay for a bow if I destroyed one in my care.  Yet I never hear of anyone asking to be compensated for the loss of value, sometimes many thousands, they suffer at the hands of incompetent  'repairers'.

While I hate  'compo culture', I really feel that in this case it might scare off idiots who feel justified in charging money to destroy instruments, and improve the chances for instruments to survive for the next generation to enjoy.

Speaking of pernambuco bows, I received a bunch of school and donated bows to evaluate for discard or repair.  I can distinguish plastic bow sticks from others but my dilemma is how to distinguish pernambuco from brazilwood or other similarly colored wooden bow sticks.  I have asked this question of others and have gotten no replies.  Can someone help?
