Jim Bress
Very nice from what I can see. Unfortunately the pictures are blurry when magnified.
Shelbow
The scroll look very defined, I like it. Would love to see more photos.

Peter K-G
I Think? And I really hope you can appriciate this. You really need my awesome latest varnish and I will give you some for free as will I give some to LK. It is really, really good (you have some 2017 or 2018, can't remember). My latest cook is Roger Hargrave color and super dark and very nice to spread with a small brush (small strikes as RH describes), or your fingers/hands . I'm going to cook more this summer after our grief (vaiennut viulu, svärfar)
Fjodor
Thanks for the offer, I'd be happy to try your new varnish. My thought was to apply some dark varnish to tone down the bright red at this stage (this is just ground + alizarine color concentrate) Very sorry to hear about your loss
Andreas Preuss
That’s maybe how the red diamond Strad looked like when just finished. A bit too red for my personal taste though. Are you going to antique the varnish?
Fjodor
Hi Andreas, I won't try to antique it as I do not have the skills I hope the "fire engine" red will tone down a bit when I apply some dark varnish over it. Maybe this was how some heavily colored Strads looked like when new... , I have also blackened the chamfers as seen on some cremonese instruments. In the end there were quite a few makers famous for intense red, spontaneously Silvestre comes to my mind and there are other French makers. Michael_Molnar
Try shading the red violin into highlights. Use a mild abrasive like pumice 4F or rottenstone. I think it will look great.
Fjodor
Thanks for the suggestion, I have done some shading before, but usually by adding color, not removing. Here's an example.
Yoshiki
So, have you changed the color that red into this yellow? Amazing! and beautiful!!

I think red is a really hard colour to pull off, but you did well.

Thanks, this is another instrument though. It was meant to show the effect of shading by adding color. "glazing" I think the technique is called
