Thanks. There has been zero progress for me, as well, since the last update. (Busy at work - no energy for making) Vacation gave me some inspiration to carve a bit

Do you mean the gouge with the light colored wood handle? It's a Dastra brand gouge. I have several and do not have a problem that they loose the edge fast. Another set of Marples gouges is much worse in this respect. My favorite is an old English cast steel gouge that seems to stay sharp forever.

I have a few J. Addis goiges that never dull myself. 

I just noticed because the octagonal handle is what Pfeil uses. I have mostly Pfeil and they are like Play Doh.
