Yes it is dark

For every cook I got bolder. This last batch is as far as I'm going to go, because it will be too dark if I go further.

The colophony is ordinary pine rosin from Finnish pine trees, here is from another cook when it starts to melt

I enjoy your varnish making posts.

I have one of the veritas guides as well. I mostly use it for awkward blades I cant sharpen freehand. Lee valley just published a page on sharpening (more for hobbyist but still some useful info).
