Roger's latest edit is frigging awesome! I should be through it by the end of the week. I'd like to index the article (or at least provide a good table of contents) as this will really help people to get answers quickly. I'd say 85% of the questions roger winds up answering in the forums are covered in the bass blog edit.

Cheers

Any profits, there won't be many, will go to the Pernambuco project (Neil's idea). I would like some suggestions please.

Sorry if this was covered, and I missed it.

What's the Pernambuco project?

Sounds interesting.

Hi

In the post # 480 Roger explain the process of antiquing very well but I have a doubt.

After coat with the patina oil colors he rub this.

But after rubbing doesn´t he apply any varnish or only french polishing?

Does this polishing contain shellac?

What happens with the rest of pátina over the varnish an behind the french polishing?

If someone could reply this could help me a lot.

Thank in advance.

The answers to these questions are all on the blog, but if you can wait I have refined these explanations on my edit which you will be pleased to know was completed today. Now Chris and I just need to finish the indexing and sorting the photos. Please be patient. As for costs 'not telling' I have no Idea, but I will try to keep them down.

I am slowly adding more photographs and text for the bass making book. I really is moving along, but it is taking much longer than I had anticipated. However, I also have a slight problem. This is a problem that I often get when I am doing things like this for free. It is the problem of copyright. I had this with the beautiful film that my daughter made about making a violin in my workshop. She made this film when she was a film student. She used a variety of music to show the versatility of the violin and that of course stopped any chance of it ever been given out, even for free. Now, in the bass book I would really like to reproduce the photo on page 135 of Antonio Stradivari in Japan. This photograph was taken by Mr. Shinichi Yokoyama. I need permission to use it and preferably without cost. Does anyone know how I can get this permission? I have already written to Gakken and Co who published the book but I cannot find an address for Mr. Mr. Shinichi Yokoyama.

Hi Roger , Mr. Shinichi Yokoyama might be on facebook , do you have an account ?   if not ,  you could word a letter and I'll message all the people with that name

best Adam

I am also very interested. This topic was the main reason for me to subscribe to this forum.

Although I am a guitarmaker, a binder with your Strad-articles has found its way to my bookshelf. It's very inspiring and always demands me to reflect on my own working methods.

I just noticed that someone was looking, so I thought I might update you. I have finished part 1. I have re-written it and it is being read and corrected. The photographs have also been selected. The written work will be posted on my web site in a couple of weeks at the latest. I can also post it here. However, the photographs will only be available on my site. This is because of problems with up and downloading if they are to be big enough. There are more than 200 in the first part alone. Although it is well on the way, part 2, which mainly concerns the varnishing will take a little longer. When you see it I think that you will understand why it has taken so long. Because we made the bass in two workshops (in two different countries) things got a little out of order. I have now corrected the order while still trying to keep the informal blog structure. I am sorry that it has taken so long, but I am a working violin maker, as can be seen from the topic about edgework.

Yes, something is supposed to be finished by the end of this month, but I am a bit worried that my computer guy is doing his own thing. I am seeing him tomorrow. I will let you know. Chris has been helping me, so all the written work has been completed and edited. I have also catalogued and numbered the photos, including the extra ones. In other words everything is complete and ready. If the worst comes to the worst you can all have them as they are and put them together yourselves. The job that he is doing is costing me 1000 euros exactly so I really hope that it will be good.
