martin swan Posted December 10, 2012 Report Share Posted December 10, 2012 There are many French and German trade violins from 1890 to 1930 labelled or branded after Vuillaume. Some of the better French examples (good oil-varnished antiqued Labertes for instance) are very good, though they don't bear much of a visual resemblance to Vuillaume's work. I've never seen a French Vuillaume "copy" with a brand to the upper back - in my experience they are all German, and this one certainly looks German/Schoenbach. Joe Swenson Posted December 12, 2012 Report Share Posted December 12, 2012 I have one stamped similarly on the back and labeled inside where the tailpiece is stamped "Made in Czechoslovakia" After significant regraduation it is now a decent sounding instrument.
