markkrepka Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Can anyone help with the identification of this violin. My mother is moving house and it's one of the many items that belonged to my grandfather that was in her attic. Any information will be gratefully receiced. http://frontierse-so...ry/IMG_0184.JPG http://frontierse-so...ry/IMG_0185.JPG http://frontierse-so...ry/IMG_0186.JPG http://frontierse-so...ry/IMG_0200.JPG http://frontierse-so...ry/IMG_0201.JPG
Omobono Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 You'll probably find it's not all that valuable - from a cursory glance - but if in reasonable condition might be good enough to play a good tune if fitted out properly. You need to know, I guess, if you didn't already, that there were hundred of thousands of such instruments churned out to meet popular demand for cheap instruments by factories in many places. (BTW - all the images seem to be of the same shot of your fiddle, unless there is a glitch on my PC or the program here)

It is a product of the cottage industry (not factory!) in the Schönbach area around ca-1900. Hardly worth repairing.
