Fjodor
I'm working slowly on #3, with a 5 months old son there's not so much time to spend in the workshop. The purfling is done and I've begun to arch the back plate. I use full length curtate cycloid templates. The top is light engelmann spruce (0.31) It's like carving in styrofoam. CarloBartolini
Nice work James! And of course, nice work guys!
joerobson
JMJ, I think we'll call you "Iron Mike" ... Most people who work wood well do not work metal well...or stone...and you do all three. Nice. Now get back to that fiddle! on we go, Joe
cbouts
You know where this is going dont you.... (right after I get all excited over possibly varnishing an instrument perfectly clean! OH NO!!!!!!!!!) First quick and dirty prototype on some rib stock without a template to demonstrate the effect under wet varnish this morning.

~ Ben Conover
Copy of a painted Amati on the cards Andrew ? James/Fjodor, very nice work.
cbouts
Thankfully not quite that complex! This actually might come out pretty stunning for a decorated instrument. Its not overly done, pretty simple for the most part. Not my style at all but the sketches ive been given are not too much and that was just the quick throw down without any clean lines or perfect shapes. Nothing is set in stone yet but will be very interesting. Never thought I would end up gold leafing an instrument! If it was the King Amati I would have passed out and sent them to Marco Coppiardi. HAHA - He is way more the expert on this.
arglebargle
In the end, a new top may have been a little easier. Now how quickly can I get it off my bench?
Fjodor
Is that birch? I like it. Thanks, yes it's birch. It's not very fun to work with (quite dense and seems to split easily) I have more of the same kind of wood though, so if it turns out good I might try it again.
Nicolas Temino
The top of my next baby nearly finished. 62 grams without bass bar. Guess I am on the right way.
