Brass Violin

Recommended Posts

What would the value be of a 100 year old brass violin from Tennessee? I have no pictures at this time. If they are needed then I could have a few after the weekend.

I have nothing from the internet that I can find. I have heard that such a thing was made back then so this is feasible. I am talking about a metallic violin made of brass.

Thanks,

Danny Bradford

So I found a bit more info once I began searching for "Brass Fiddle" instead of Violin.

In fact, this very website has a post with a picture very similar, almost exactly like the picture I have seen:

Apparently this is a rare bird indeed. Now to decide if it is a good investment!!??

Have I stumped the experts?

"Investment?" I am not so sure about that. This will never be the next Strad. This is a curiosity item and should be purchased as such. For only someone else interested in curiosities will be your future buyer. Much like the aluminum bow by JBV, it's fun to have seen but when the moment passes what good will it do.

What is it worth? What ever you are willing to pay and absolutely no more. ;)

Here are some pictures of the Brass Violin if interested.

I didnt buy it but my friend who owns the violin shop knows a guy that might be interested for the right price. He is big into folk music and the such.

Your advice and information was quite valued and backed up what my friend with the violin shop found out as well. This forum is a wonderful help!
