Danny Bradford Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 What would the value be of a 100 year old brass violin from Tennessee? I have no pictures at this time. If they are needed then I could have a few after the weekend. I have nothing from the internet that I can find. I have heard that such a thing was made back then so this is feasible. I am talking about a metallic violin made of brass. Thanks, Danny Bradford
Danny Bradford Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 So I found a bit more info once I began searching for "Brass Fiddle" instead of Violin. In fact, this very website has a post with a picture very similar, almost exactly like the picture I have seen: Other Post Apparently this is a rare bird indeed. Now to decide if it is a good investment!!?? Have I stumped the experts?
David Frederick Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 "Investment?" I am not so sure about that. This will never be the next Strad. This is a curiosity item and should be purchased as such. For only someone else interested in curiosities will be your future buyer. Much like the aluminum bow by JBV, it's fun to have seen but when the moment passes what good will it do. What is it worth? What ever you are willing to pay and absolutely no more. David

bean_fidhleir Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 I doubt it would make a good investment if you're thinking of monetary appreciation. It probably doesn't sound very good, so players wouldn't be interested, and it's not made by a "name", so there's no reason for a collector to want it. That doesn't leave much.
Danny Bradford Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 Here are some pictures of the Brass Violin if interested. Pictures I didnt buy it but my friend who owns the violin shop knows a guy that might be interested for the right price. He is big into folk music and the such. Your advice and information was quite valued and backed up what my friend with the violin shop found out as well. This forum is a wonderful help!
Danny Bradford Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 By the way we almost got it to play but the tailpiece broke after we got strings on it. Too bad! If the friend of a friend buys it I told him he needed to record him playing!
Danny Bradford Posted July 16, 2012 Author Report Posted July 16, 2012 I wanted to add one more comment, if anyone is interested we convinced the guy that this instrument was not worth the money he was asking and he was willing to take $350 dollars. If anyone is interested let me know. He still has it for sale.
