actonern
Can anyone point me to a photo of a period cello end button? I understand that protruding end pins were not in use, but something was there to hold the tail gut. Thanks in advance... E
baroquecello
Theres some pictures here of replicas. Have not seen any originals. On my cello, the lutier used a somewhat larger diametre and didn't add the ball you see on these pictures, but instead made a hole with a cork-like material in it. This was done thinking practically: you don't want the cello to make a huge bang when you put it on the stone church floor while having a gig. Bernhard Ritschard
There is a nice baroque cello button on this website: http://www.harmonie.net/us/index.html Go to "endpins". baroquecello, I like your practical thinking!
