Paris?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have the good fortune to be going to Paris this summer and was curious if anyone know what was on display there in museums, etc.

For that matter, does anyone know of a list of 'famous' violins on display around the world. I'd have thought there would be some dedication to Vuillaume maybe...

I'm aware of the ‘Davidoff’ 1708 Stradivari violin at Cité de la Musique, but haven't found any other references in my quick google search.

Thanks

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I can't give you a definitive list, but I think there are 5 or 6 strads on display at Cité de la Musique, and a del Gesu. Also there is, as you thought, a display dedicated to Vuillaume.

Well worth a visit.

As someone who is unlikely to have the chance to see them it is a shame there is not a better set of photographs of the instruments somewhere online. The ones available seem old and not of great quality.

Davidoff & Tua (1708), Provigny (1716), Sarasate (1724)

Are there more Strads and what is the del Gesu? Does anyone know of better photographs?

Thanks.
