Poor Vuillaume

after a 40,000usd restoration at a top shop it might be worth 25,000usd, the neck on the other hand if you had a great vuillaume without a neck would be worth 25% of the value, so 100,000usd, 25% of that, the neck is worth much more than the violin, is this fuzzy logic, jacob??

I wonder who wrote the description - "A GOOD FRENCH VIOLIN BY JEAN BAPTISTE VUILLAUME"

Machold, perhaps? :)

Maybe the tense needs to be updated to say "WAS A GOOD FRENCH VIOLIN..." or "COULD ONCE AGAIN BE A FRENCH VIOLIN..."

The way it is now you may as well add to the description along the lines of - HAS A NICE OPEN SOUND.

So sad....I just saw it in person yesterday. It's in a box with all the pieces in individual zip-lok plastic bags. Personally I think it still has a lot of potential. These restored violins regularly sell for $50K to $100K and they're just German factory violins...imagine what a Vuillaume could fetch:

i think the auction house is staking their reputation on this being a genuine french vuillaume, not a german copy, and german copy vuillaumes go for 1-3000usd not 50-100,000usd

this violin fully restored still has a soundpost crack on the back, which can take off up to 75% off the value though

Is the second work by Arman an assemblage or a painting? Awesome piece.

It's an assemblage. That's mostly what he did. A friend of mine worked for him for 20 years....assembling and cutting up a lot of stuff. I actually like a lot of his work. Some of it is very inventive and beautiful art. Arman definitely had some moments of greatness.
