arglebargle
I have tried many methods for clamping an f-hole wing crack. I have a clamp that I a pretty pleased with, but not completely. Any one care to share some methods/clamps/techniques for clamping these cracks? I seem to recall an article in the Strad (?) about an English tool maker, and he had designed a very elegant clamp. Don't know who or when. I would love to see it again. Thanks!
Barry J. Griffiths
I've used triangular shaped cork wedges with success. Slip the wedge in where the F hole is fairly wide and the slide it down towards the wing. I've also stretched a rubberband from the wing to a closing clamp acting like an anchor (positioned on the vln wherever it best opposes the wing crack). Because both methods are 'soft' in nature the F hole is not damaged. Barry

Guy Harrison has a pic on his blog that shows this tool in use. http://guyharrison.com/blog/?p=680 Cheers,
