If you need such a violin buy it and have your luthier fix it. I think you will get your money back

when you decide to sell it.. meanwhle you get a lot of use.

Can anyone advise... Is it possible to tell whether that crack will affect a. the tone or b. the value of the instrument? I wonder if anyone with some repair experience could comment.

The reason I ask is I'm potentially interested in this listing (for myself, as a player), but wary of problems that the crack could bring. On the one hand, could end up being a very nice instrument. On the other, after repairs, could end up being not worth the effort.

Thanks

Can anyone comment on the crack listed in this posting? I'm interested in this violin (for myself, as a player), and wondered if this is a serious repair that would impact a. the sound/playability or b. the value. Also, curious to know if this is something that would need to be diligently maintained once repaired.

Any comments would be much appreciated. Kind of risky to buy a fiddle on ebay in the first place, never mind one that would need to visit the violin hospital before it can even be tried for the first time. However, it may be worth the gamble...

Thanks

Well it's a fair market price - at auction on public display it would have sold for $4-6000, on Ebay obviously the price is going to be lower because you can't handle the goods in advance.

The crack wasn't an issue at all - sorry not to have commented earlier but I didn't see the post.

Most Ebay buyers aren't prepared to pay a decent price for something like this, and will consistently look a gift horse in the mouth - any number of dealers would have paid more than that at a London sale.

When I was trying to see the photo of the violin, the web image does not stay long enough for me to look at.

Why it that so? Anyone has that experience? Has it been sold? Do not buy anything if there is no return policy within a week.

PS. Now I know it was sold. Nice violin I must say.

Thank you. Now I know it was sold at $3,556 Nice.

I think it must be a violin shop bought it. They do not want it to compete with their own, so take it

out of the market. It may soon show up in my friendly local violin shop window with a nice set up and with a higer price tag.

I have too many violins or I would consider it.

PS. When I said I consider it. I meant I have to play it side by side with another violin I have. A few min each and change turns.
