Their bad luck; The Austrian National Bank asserts that they bought the instruments from a regular violin dealer (M.), and is therefore rightful owner.

How likely is the OeNB to prevail on this assertion? If the dealer is found guilty of fraud/embezzlement/conversion on these eight instruments in question, seems to me OeNB doesn't have much of a leg to stand on regarding being rightful owners, no?

First there were plenty of rightful owners and no violins, now there are violins with multiple rightful owners. I`m pretty glad that I don`t have to interpret paragraph 367 of the Allgemein Burgerliche Gezetzbuch and suppose one should have a good reason to hold somebody in custody for over a year.
