robertdo Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 A VERY crude diagram of what I understand is a pull-up a 0.5mm shim would create a additional 1 degree angle (give or take) with a 30mm high ribs violin at the top block. In return this 1 degree angle would increase the height at the bridge by about 3.5mm (nearly 7 times as D. Burgess and Fiddlecollector said) if you consider a 198mm string length from the edge to the bridge Nb. The shim is the small black rectangle. The longer gray rectangle is the top block
Janito Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I don't agree that a carefully matched maple shim under the fingerboard necessarily looks bad. A butcher will make any wood look bad. You could argue that the colour matching could be better, but the flame match is not too bad...
