MANFIO Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Yaroslav Wenger recorded some works for the Kiev Radio, with his bride Barbara Turta. He plays the viola I made to him. Here Schubert's Arpeggione sonata (Allegro moderato, Adagio, Allegretto): http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9213036/ http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9213037/ http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9213038/
actonern Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 What a beautifully centred sound... nice and dusky with an edge, and even too! If you're as good a lawyer as a luthier I'll give you a call if I'm ever in trouble... Best regards, E
MANFIO Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Ha! Thanks! Good ears actonern! Of course the player helps (Russian school). Yaroslav studied with Michael Kugel in the Gent Royal Conservatory, Belgium. This is the viola, I posted the photos here: http://www.maestronet.com/forum/index.php?...t=0&start=0
Michael_Molnar Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 What an honor, MANFIO! Stay Tuned. Mike
Mauricio Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Hi Manfio, you sure help keep this place interesting. I agree, it's a focused and dusky sound, congratulations! Had the piano been tuned, it would have helped the violist ;-) It almost sounds like a fortepiano.
Nicolas Temino Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 What a lovely sound!!. Congratulations, maestro.
~ Ben Conover Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 He takes it rather slow. Congrats Manfio.
Chris Knowlton Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 That is quite a tribute to you Manfio. I very much enjoyed hearing it, thank you for sharing. Chris

Now try to get one of your players and a chamber orchestra together for the Vivaldi G-major concerto. Among my all time favorites.
jezzupe Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 The best sounding new viola I have ever heard, excellent tone, great playing...bravo

MANFIO Posted October 16, 2010 Author Report Posted October 16, 2010 Thanks! Here some more recordings, now Schumann's "Fairy Tales" (Nicht Schmel, Lebhaft, Rasch, Langsm): http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9209178/ http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9209350/ http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9213034/ http://www.ipernity.com/doc/91953/9213035/
~ Ben Conover Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Your violas has a good rich C string and a clear top end. Nice baritone sound. I enjoyed the Schumann.
COB3 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 I'm pretty sure he is just sharing his work, as I might do on the rare occasion when I manage to get anything done. I've really enjoyed hearing/seeing his work. It is especially encouraging and challenging to me, because he is largely self-taught (as I am) and has been at it about the same length of time. He has gone a lot further, though. Pretty energetic/tireless in all ways.
~ Ben Conover Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 True, and he makes home made raviolli !
~ Ben Conover Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 Got any photos of your bridges please Manfio ?
MANFIO Posted October 17, 2010 Author Report Posted October 17, 2010 Here we go Ben, this is an old one, I would carve it a bit differently now, a viola bridge:
