Bernhard Ritschard Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 I am trying to clear up some confusion. The Landon appears to have been played twice, once when Christophe hands it to the violinist (clip #30), and a second time when the violinist says he is playing the Landon and the plays the whole Bach movement (followed by clapping) (my URL http://vimeo.com/11727296). Just trying to sort out the relative timing because the second Bach sounds tired - that was the version I first heard when I commented on the Landon sound. There has been more than one Landon violin: One by Christophe, and two by his sons... Bernhard
Guy_Gallo Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Janito is referring to a clip on Vimeo that is of Dmitri playing the full Bach movemenet on Christophe's violin. As this comes when Dmitri introduces himself, I assumed this was BEFORE playing the rest, before talking about the five qualities.

Cristoph himself, and his two sons Roman and Adrian. Adrians fiddle is no 29 and Romans no 31.
Anders Buen Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Anders, At what point did Dimitri play this Bach on the Landon? http://vimeo.com/11727296 He sounds tired. Hi again, I just saw the movie. This is from the start, before the listening tests were done. I think there are some nerves involved here. At least that was and is my impression. The bow is jumping etc.
Salve Håkedal Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Janito is referring to a clip on Vimeo that is of Dmitri playing the full Bach movemenet on Christophe's violin. As this comes when Dmitri introduces himself, I assumed this was BEFORE playing the rest, before talking about the five qualities. That's right. Before the evaluation of all the instruments, Landon wanted to talk a little about judging the instruments on power, balance, color, clarity and warmth. So Dimitri and another player played some, and then they gave comments on these qualities. (If I remember it correctly).
Anders Buen Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 I think it may be appropriate to mention that in a couple of more scientific tests and one not quite as scientific I have participated in myself, the listeners and the players preferred different violins. So I think such a listening test has a limited value for what a player would get out of testing the violins. Who do we think decides which violin to choose?
