Dean_Lapinel Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 My 4 month old pup had a seizure, aspirated into her lungs and is having trouble breathing. She may die tonight. I have never felt a bond to a pup like this one so I'm in a world of hurt and fear. Please think about her (I don't consider this silly) and wish her well while she struggles through the night. Sorry if this post offends but I have good friends here and I need their support.
mysticpaw Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 How could anyone possibly take offence? My thoughts and prayers are with you and your beautiful little friend. As the owner of 4 siberian furkids I know how you feel. We've recently had friends lose their pups to snakebites and the shattering effect is painful to witness, but sharing and caring helps. Hope all resolves itself well for you.
Pebbles Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 It's amazing how quickly these furry paws can wend their way into our hearts. Hope pup makes it through. Pebbles & Sally
Atomino Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Unfortunately I have to face this kind of situations almost daily. Dean all the comprehension from the Vet side.
Craig Tucker Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 "Sorry if this post offends but I have good friends here and I need their support." Mary and I are both praying for you, and for your dog. I've got one (Hanna) that has been with me since I first moved to New Mexico in 1998. I start to panic even if she gets out of the yard and goes off exploring the neighborhood. I often think that dogs make better friends than people, I am sorry this is happening. My prayer is that things turn out well.

DonaldG Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 What a beautiful wee dog.I hope she makes it. Donald
Doug Rice Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Dean, I wish you and your puppy the best. Man's best friend indeed. Doug

Marijan Radaljac Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Dean, I hope she`ll make it through the night and get better. My thoughts are with you and that girl. Is that her? You sent me this one few months ago. Best!
Bob A Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." Will Rogers, 1897-1935 Please accept my sincere hope for your pup's recovery.

You sent me this one few months ago. Best! Yes Marijan, that's her at a younger age. I couldn't sleep 'till 5 and just got up a little past 9. I just got off the phone with the Cardiologist. They are still testing for shunts and will probably start antibtiotics as a precaution since he thinks her pulmonary problem is primarily aspiration pneumonia. The good news is that she does well in the oxygen (sats in the upper 90s) She slept she appears neurologically intact and alert and no more seizures. She still struggles off oxygen though. I think she is past the worst point now. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. I was right in thinking that you would understand and care.
Maestrolover Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Poor puppy, I hope so much that she makes a swift recovery... where would we be without our special four-legged friends who love us so unconditionally?
David Tseng Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Dean, I hope your pup will recover soon. My pug dog had same problem last week; she made low pitch cough and had difficulty breathing. I took her to the vet. X-ray showed partially collapsed trachea. After taking prednisonne for 3 days, she is OK now.

Prednisone (or Solumedrol) is an interesting drug - when necessary, properly used, it can be a real life saver...
Roger Hill Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Hi Dean: Know how much losing a pet can hurt. My thoughts are with you and with your puppy. Hope she is home soon and asking for a tummy rub.
Jeffrey Holmes Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Hey Dean; My hopes for a full recovery for your puppy. We're a "pet friendly" house here... and have had similar experiences with our furry buddies... some with happy endings, some not so. I feel for you. Here's one of our current family member "projects" (he's made an appearance once before on a different thread). He's a great dog, but suffers epileptic seizures if not properly medicated... and still occasionally when he is. Always an unpleasant experience when it happens.
skiingfiddler Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Dean, Hope she makes it ok. At our place a kitty has the affection you have for your pup.
Bill Yacey Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 I pray and wish all the best for your pup. Dogs are truly a Godsend in the comfort and joy they bring us. Hopefully this is just a small hiccup on a long road of life for her.
Dean_Lapinel Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 Thank you all! She is better and will be coming home in a few days I hope. You are all wonderful people.
JPherson Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Dean, My heart goes out to you and your pup. We had a similar experience though with lead paint from an 1850's house. My one caution is watch for behavior changes ie things that bother him now that didnt before. Our dog has lived another 5 years and is still going strong with the exception of the behavior changes. (vet thinks brain damage) I sincerely hope your outcome is better and i hope you guy have a long time together, Jesse
