Sexy Scrolls

Recommended Posts

Above my bench i have lots of clippings and photos ive gathered over the years of fine instruments - I have my favorites but I think the Titian scroll is one of the sexiest strad scrolls. (AND I MISSED HEARING IT IN PERSON night before last when it was here in Salt Lake)

Anyone else have sexy scrolls they like? You know, the one that makes you want to grab a neck block and get after it.

Good timing of this thread for me, as I'm just about done with the body design of my next fiddle, and thinking about the scroll/pegbox next.

Hope we get some good photo posts... including the flow into the pegbox.

Ive gone back to the ward scroll from 1700 a few times. Its not as crisp as others ive seen but I like it - here is a pic from the library of congress site reduced down.

It's either a Generius del Guesswho or a Guarnativarius... I am not too keen about copying a particular instrument, but am not above finding features I like on other violins and using something similar. I'd say it's generally ending up most like Guarneri in style, but I sure don't want one of those crude scrolls on it.

How 'bout looking at some nice filius scrolls (like the one in the rear of the photo)?

Though not of his Golden Period

For 1692, pretty darn good

Her deep inviting windings

May stir one's manhood

A sparkle in her eye

With rough edge on the old in/out

This rare beauty

A screamer. No doubt! :)

Jim,

I showed your poem to my wife. She said, "OH MY GOD, I THOUGHT YOU WERE EAT UP".
